New Landmark of historical memory

A new Landmark is coming to take its place in the city of Kalavryta and to be added alongside the existing ones (Place of Execution, Historical Cemetery, Cathedral, 13 Oaks in the Museum's precinct) in the topography of our city's memory.

These are 9 elegant stands placed at selected points along the route that starts from the courtyard of the Municipal Museum of the Kalavritan Holocaust and ends at the Site of the Execution.

The visitor to the Museum has the opportunity to follow the path that the Kalavritans on death row walked on 13 December 1943 and to learn about what happened on that tragic day, through the shocking testimonies of the survivors, Kalavritan women (mothers, wives,  daughters, sisters), children, people who were present and experienced the events.

In this way, it is possible for visitors to experience as much as possible the suffering of those who walked the Golgotha to the Execution and the tragic moments that followed with the collection and burial of the Executed.

An important addition, is the possibility that the visitor now has, through the scanning of a special QR code on the last stand, to listen to the story of the Kalavritan Tragedy, narrated in a shocking way by the great Greek actress Lydia Koniordou.

This new Landmark is part of the more general actions and activities of the Municipality of the Martyr City of Kalavryta and the Municipal Museum of the Kalavritan Holocaust, which aim to promote and preserve the memory of the Kalavritan Holocaust and to pay tribute to the innocent victims of the Kalavritan drama.
